UNI-CUE hosts educational, community leaders in Waterloo

The UNI Center for Urban Education served as the host for educational and community leaders from across the Cedar Valley and Corridor on Tuesday.

Funded by the United States Department of Education and the University of Northern Iowa, the Educational Talent Search program provides tutorial services, career exploration, information on postsecondary education, exposure to college campuses, information on student financial assistance, assistance in completing college admissions and financial aid applications, assistance in preparing for college entrance exams, special activities for sixth, seventh and eighth graders, as well as workshops for the families of participants. From athlete to mentor, UNI football alum De’Veon Harris helping Cedar Rapids students

A University of Northern Iowa alum and former football player, De'Veon Harris had hopes of playing all the way to the NFL, but injury struck and he had to change directions. Today Harris, a first-generation college graduate who came from a low-income background, is helping Cedar Rapids students reach their goals through his work with Educational Talent Search - a TRIO program that was recently expanded to the Cedar Rapids School District.
