Applications for the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Venture Competition are now being accepted. The fifteenth annual statewide competition will be awarding $100,000 in cash prizes. The $100,000 in seed funding consists of a $50,000 contribution from John and Mary Pappajohn and a $50,000 match from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The goal of this competition is to support Iowa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - In an effort to protect the health of the campus community, the University of Northern Iowa today announced that all on-campus courses will move exclusively to online instruction beginning Monday, March 23 through at least Friday, April 3. While the public health risk due to coronavirus remains low, the university is acting under guidance from the Iowa Board of Regents and medical experts who advise that now is the best time to act to slow the potential spread of COVID-19. Universities across the country are taking similar steps.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) has partnered with Hawkeye Community College and the Humanities of Iowa to host “Love and Inclusion Swoop into the Cedar Valley,” a special series of activities surrounding author Gabby Rivera’s visit to the two campuses. Rivera will give the keynote address at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at UNI’s Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC).

  UNI NEWS SERVICE – The University of Northern Iowa is pleased to announce that Michael Graziano, professor of religious studies in the department of philosophy and world religions, has received a $10,000 seed grant from the Whiting Foundation, which will be used to launch a brand-new Religious Literacy Project in Iowa.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - Due to numerous factors associated with the spread of COVID-19 here and abroad, the University of Northern Iowa is cancelling its summer study abroad courses. The difficult decision was made after consultation with numerous campus stakeholders in order to protect students’ health and educational and financial interests. The decision will impact more than 250 students who planned to study in countries including Egypt, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

UNI NEWS SERVICES – The University of Northern Iowa Additive Manufacturing Center (AMC) received the first of three automated robotic machining cells last month, which will make the center the only university-based automated investment casting facility in the world.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa will host a health panel on the coronavirus featuring experts from the university and Black Hawk County Health Department in an effort to dispel myths about the virus and provide information to the community on how to prevent and combat its spread. The panel will be held at 3 p.m., March 11 in the Lang Hall Auditorium on UNI’s campus.
