The University of Northern Iowa’s New Horizons Band will perform a winter concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16, in the Great Hall of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on the UNI campus. The band will present a variety of musical selections including a special performance with members of the UNI Trombone studio, and a variety of other band favorites. Join us in the Gallagher lobby, before the concert, with music provided by UNI School of Music students.

University of Northern Iowa’s team of five students was named as one of nine regional winners of Deloitte FanTAXtic, Deloitte’s student Tax Case Study Competition. Nearly 60 teams representing more than 40 colleges and universities participated in the regional event from Nov. 7-8, held at 13 Deloitte offices across the U.S.

University of Northern Iowa Athletics Director David Harris has signed an extension to his contract with the university, committing to more than five additional years with the Panthers. Harris, who was officially named director of intercollegiate athletics in February 2016, will continue to lead the division through June 2025.

Drew Foster’s time at the University of Northern Iowa will wind down with student teaching, a chance at cracking the U.S. wrestling team and a trip to the White House to meet President Trump on Friday. Foster is the reigning 184-pound Division I wrestling champion and set to graduate from UNI this December. He, along with the other nine national champions, were invited to the nation’s capital to meet the president. It will be Foster’s first visit to Washington, D.C.

University of Northern Iowa President Nook has announced a $10 million gift to the university at today’s meeting of the Iowa Board of Regents. “David and Karen Takes have always shown strong leadership for UNI,” said Nook. “They have invested their time, talents and treasure in this university. This new gift builds on their passion for the university and will make our campus even stronger going forward.” David Takes is a current member and past chair of the UNI Foundation’s Board of Trustees and a 1981 alumnus of the university.

In March 2020, the UNI Wind Ensemble will embark on a spring break tour to Europe. The group has planned a fall concert performance, with hopes of raising funds for the tour through ticket sales. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Great Hall in the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC) on the University of Northern Iowa campus. A European themed hors d'oeuvre reception will follow the concert.

In celebration of International Education Week, the International Students and Scholars Office will host “A Taste of Culture.” This event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 18, in the Central Ballroom, Maucker Union, on the University of Northern Iowa campus. “A Taste of Culture” allows visitors to try food from cultures all around the world. There will be food samples, life performances, door prizes, and international students representing more than 35 countries. The event is open to everyone.
