UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa maintained its rank as the Midwest’s second-best regional public university in the recently released 2021 U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges 2020” report. UNI was also ranked No. 17 in undergraduate teaching among public regional universities in the 12-state Midwest region and No. 17 among best colleges for veterans for its work with veterans and active-duty service members.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa modified the fall 2020 calendar to minimize the risks of COVID-19 and ensure we could safely hold in-person classes. Building on the early success we have seen, UNI will also modify our spring 2021 calendar in response to the ongoing pandemic. UNI NEWS SERVICES - The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) at the University of Northern Iowa has released a new whitepaper detailing food waste at K-12 schools in rural Iowa. The whitepaper analyzes data collected by the IWRC over the last five years of providing direct assistance to K-12 schools across the state in the fight against food waste.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - Following CDC guidelines in order to protect the campus community, the University of Northern Iowa’s commencement ceremony will move to a virtual format and be held in November.  The decision was not made lightly, but the health and safety of UNI graduates along with their family and friends was paramount. The ceremony, typically held in December, is now scheduled to be held virtually on Saturday, Nov. 28.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa’s fall 2020 census numbers reflect a growing freshman class, a strong increase in out-of-state students, a near record-high retention rate, and the most diverse freshman class of all time. UNI saw the size of its new freshman class increase slightly (1,482 freshman this year compared to 1,465 last fall), with overall enrollment coming in at 9,522 students this year. This count reflects not only the impact of COVID-19 and immigration challenges, but also UNI’s success in increasing its three-year and five-year graduation rates.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa welcomes today’s decision to close bars across six counties, including Black Hawk, beginning this evening, and restricting the sale of alcohol at restaurants after 10 p.m.; this action remains in effect until Sept. 20.
