The University of Northern Iowa’s Strategic Marketing Services (SMS) and Institute for Decision Making (IDM), in partnership with the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), surveyed businesses and organizations across the state of Iowa hoping to better understand the initial impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on their operations.

UNI NEWS SERVICES – Students in the UNI Department of Theatre’s Directing Class will present the first ever “TheatreUNI Digital Performance Festival" April 26 through May 8 on the TheatreUNI Facebook and Twitter accounts. After the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the TheatreUNI Spring 2020 10-Minute Plays performance series, students in the department of theatre’s Directing class at the University of Northern Iowa, who had each been preparing to direct a 10-minute play, pivoted their work in early April to a digital format.

UNI NEWS SERVICES – University of Northern Iowa 2019 alumnus Jacob Smith and quantitative economics major Cole Wetzel have been selected as one of the Top 25 Finalist teams for the Schultz Entrepreneurship Challenge as part of e-Fest 2020, which is a three-day celebration of undergraduate entrepreneurs featuring workshops, networking and four separate competitions awarding a total of $250,000 in prize money. Over 120 student submissions were submitted from over 65 colleges and universities across North America.

UNI NEWS SERVICES – Gallagher Bluedorn’s recently launched online series, “Local Legends: Live from Gallagher Bluedorn,” has been suspended. The decision was made by the University of Northern Iowa following the Governor’s recent proclamation addressing the closure of theatres that host live performances. The Gallagher Bluedorn hopes to restart local streaming as soon as the restraints are lifted (currently April 30). At this time, the current schedule of performances will work to be rescheduled. The following performances are postponed until further notice:

UNI NEWS SERVICES – The University of Northern Iowa will host the Student Leadership Awards at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 14 via Facebook. The virtual ceremony will recognize outstanding student leadership through a series of awards presented to students and student organizations. Several awards will be presented, including three awards from the Office of the Dean of Students: the Lux Service Award, Outstanding Student Leader Award and Servant Leadership Award.

UNI NEWS SERVICES – The Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center has introduced a new online series to keep the community connected with local musicians. “Local Legends: Live from Gallagher Bluedorn” will stream to Facebook from the campus of the University of Northern Iowa while practicing safe social distancing practices. The series is designed to bring the joy of the performing arts to patrons at home while supporting local musicians as the community is sheltering in place. UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa requested a 0% increase in room and board rates for the 2020-21 academic year at a Board of Regents meeting Wednesday, as part of an effort to make higher education affordable for students and their families. “During these unprecedented times with COVID-19, the university is striving not to waiver from our commitment of affordability, and no increase in room and board rates helps fulfill that goal,” said Michael Hager, senior vice president for finance and operations

UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa is taking a number of steps to ensure students, including incoming transfer students, graduate on time in the wake of widespread campus changes due to the coronavirus. UNI is acting early to remove a significant barrier for future students and will now accept all Credit/No Credit courses taken during Spring 2020 as future transfer credits from all other colleges and universities.
