  University of Northern Iowa and China’s Shanghai University of Engineering and Science (SUES) are partnering to create a 2+2-degree program, allowing students to gain two years of educational experience in both China and the United States.

The University of Northern Iowa posted the highest voter turnout of any public university in the state in 2018, validating a concerted effort by faculty and students to increase turnout on campus. UNI’s voter turnout rate was 46.2% in 2018, a 16.5 percentage point increase from 2014 fueled by the #PanthersVote initiative, a nonpartisan, unified effort with the Northern Iowa Student Government (NISG) and University chapters of the American Democracy Project and Campus Election Engagement Project.

  The 2019 Education Summit at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) will feature presentations and conversations centered on “Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and Practice: Challenging Systemic Inequity and Injustice in Education and Health” on Nov. 11 and 12 at the Maucker Union.  The conference focus is a result of a 10-month listening and learning tour conducted by the Center for Educational Transformation (CET) director and staff, which resulted in a list of critical and emerging issues reported by Iowans and observed across the nation.

  Brooklyn-based artist, collaborator and education activist Traci Molloy will conduct a lecture 6 p.m. Nov. 7 on the UNI campus. The event will be held in room 111 of the Kamerick Art Building. Molloy has presented her artwork in more than 175 national exhibitions, including solo shows in New York City, Chicago, Kansas City and Nashville. She has received fully funded residencies throughout the country, and project grants from the Puffin Foundation and Ohio Arts Council.

The University of Northern Iowa will host its first annual LGBTQ+ Visit Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The event is the first of its kind in the state and is aimed at attracting high school juniors and seniors and transfer students and is free to attendees.

  Dear UNI community, and especially our students,   Last spring semester, in the wake of the Waka Flocka Flame concert, a group of concerned students formed the Racial and Ethnic Coalition (REC). This group asked university administration to live up to the ideals of our vision, mission, and strategic plan, and requested that the administration accomplish several tasks.

The University of Northern Iowa is hosting a women’s law enforcement leadership academy from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Office of Risk Management and Environmental Health Safety, 3219 Hudson Road, Cedar Falls. The academy, geared toward women considering a career in law enforcement, is being hosted by UNI’s department of sociology, anthropology and criminology with support from the Iowa Association of Women Police and Iowa Department of Public Safety.
