Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) graduates seeking a bachelor’s degree through the University of Northern Iowa will now have one of the most affordable options in the state of Iowa thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines Catalyst Circle.

UNI Gallery of Art to present 'The Earth Is a House of Stories: Works from the UNI Permanent Art Collection by Native Artists'

The University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art will present an exhibition in the Mary Haskell-Hansen Room of the Gallery titled "The Earth Is a House of Stories: Works from the UNI Permanent Art Collection by Native Artists," which will be open to the public on the following dates: August 23 – September 25; October 15 – November 6; and December 2 – 15. Please note, the Gallery will be closed Monday, September 6 for Labor Day.

UNI Gallery of Art to present 'Present / Tense: Sculpture, Paintings and Drawings by Tom & Malayka Gormally'

The University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art will present an exhibition titled "Present / Tense: Sculpture, Paintings and Drawings by Tom & Malayka Gormally," which will be open to the public from Monday, August 23 through Saturday, September 25. Please note, the Gallery will be closed Monday, September 6 for Labor Day.

Seattle-based artists Tom and Malayka Gormally will present a public lecture on Thursday, September 23 at 6:00 p.m. in KAB 111. A closing reception will follow.

UNI announces public celebration with the Meskwaki Tribal Council

The University of Northern Iowa is pleased to announce a public celebration with the Meskwaki Tribal Council as the two entities work to develop a new mission stewardship statement for UNI. The goal of the statement is to guide the university’s mission in ways that honor Native and Indigenous people on campus and throughout the community. 

UNI’s Educational Talent Search program receives $630,000 grant

The University of Northern Iowa’s Educational Talent Search program has received a $630,000 grant to continue its work assisting Waterloo students from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed in higher education.

The five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education is a continuation of funding the program has received since 1985. Each year, the program provides academic, career and financial counseling to 1,200 low-income or first-generation Waterloo students and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education.

Iowa Waste Reduction Center awarded USDA grant to reduce community waste

The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) at the University of Northern Iowa was recently awarded a grant for their Community Waste Diversion Project that will provide technical assistance, training and educational information by hosting an on-site, hands-on workshop.

New UNI partnership to benefit transfer students

A new partnership between the University of Northern Iowa and a host of Illinois community colleges will make it easier for transfer students to enroll at UNI. 

The university has signed an articulation agreement with the Illinois Community College System, a group of 48 community colleges that serve nearly 700,000 students a year. Under the agreement, students transferring from Illinois with an associate of arts degree will have satisfied UNI’s general education requirements. Those students are also eligible for a $5,000 out-of-state award.

The University of Northern Iowa’s strong graduation rates, commitment to community involvement and general education program have earned praise from a university accreditation group.
