UNI NEWS SERVICES – Gallagher Bluedorn’s recently launched online series, “Local Legends: Live from Gallagher Bluedorn,” has been suspended. The decision was made by the University of Northern Iowa following the Governor’s recent proclamation addressing the closure of theatres that host live performances. The Gallagher Bluedorn hopes to restart local streaming as soon as the restraints are lifted (currently April 30). At this time, the current schedule of performances will work to be rescheduled. The following performances are postponed until further notice:

UNI NEWS SERVICES – The University of Northern Iowa will host the Student Leadership Awards at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 14 via Facebook. The virtual ceremony will recognize outstanding student leadership through a series of awards presented to students and student organizations. Several awards will be presented, including three awards from the Office of the Dean of Students: the Lux Service Award, Outstanding Student Leader Award and Servant Leadership Award.

UNI NEWS SERVICES – The Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center has introduced a new online series to keep the community connected with local musicians. “Local Legends: Live from Gallagher Bluedorn” will stream to Facebook from the campus of the University of Northern Iowa while practicing safe social distancing practices. The series is designed to bring the joy of the performing arts to patrons at home while supporting local musicians as the community is sheltering in place. UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa requested a 0% increase in room and board rates for the 2020-21 academic year at a Board of Regents meeting Wednesday, as part of an effort to make higher education affordable for students and their families. “During these unprecedented times with COVID-19, the university is striving not to waiver from our commitment of affordability, and no increase in room and board rates helps fulfill that goal,” said Michael Hager, senior vice president for finance and operations

UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa is taking a number of steps to ensure students, including incoming transfer students, graduate on time in the wake of widespread campus changes due to the coronavirus. UNI is acting early to remove a significant barrier for future students and will now accept all Credit/No Credit courses taken during Spring 2020 as future transfer credits from all other colleges and universities.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa has been named to Phi Theta Kappa’s Transfer Honor Roll for the second time in three years. Only the top quarter of the regionally accredited institutions that applied made the international honor society’s list, which recognizes excellence in helping community college students successfully transition to institutions offering four-year degrees. UNI is one of 112 colleges nationwide - and the only public university in Iowa - to make the cut this year.

UNI NEWS SERVICES - Iowa’s regent universities have established emergency funds to support students who may be adversely affected by the COVID-19 virus. Iowa State University, the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa launched the funds to help students address their most urgent needs as they quickly transition from living and learning on campus to online instruction.

Applications for the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Venture Competition are now being accepted. The fifteenth annual statewide competition will be awarding $100,000 in cash prizes. The $100,000 in seed funding consists of a $50,000 contribution from John and Mary Pappajohn and a $50,000 match from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The goal of this competition is to support Iowa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
