CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa is now accepting enrollments in music education workshops this summer. Each workshop is designed for teachers to enhance learning and instruction in their music classrooms. One hour of undergraduate credit is available for each.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa's Conservation Corp was recognized by Iowa Campus Compact (IACC) with a 2018 Engaged Campus Award. The group received the Emerging Innovation award for their work with Community Energy & Climate Action. Nearly 50 nominations were received from 12 colleges and universities across the state for the Engaged Campus Awards. Those nominated include students, organizations, faculty, staff and alumni who have built community-campus partnerships, community service programs, service-learning courses and lead institutional engagement.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa—The National Program for Playground Safety (NPPS) at the University of Northern Iowa will celebrate National Playground Safety Week from Monday, April 23, through Friday, April 27. Playground Safety Week is a time for everyone to focus on children’s outdoor play equipment, that they spend so much time on and adults who maintain the playground environment. Each year, 200,000 children visit the emergency room from a playground-related injury, with a recent study reporting that 21,000 of those visits are head injuries.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa’s New Horizons Band will perform a spring concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 30, in the Great Hall of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on the UNI campus. The band will present a variety of musical selections, including "Slidin’ Saints," featuring the New Horizons trombone section, "The Magnificent Seven" and the "Horns A-Hunting," featuring the New Horizons Horn section. The UNI Percussion Studio will also present a performance of "Stubernic" by Mark Ford.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa will host a U.S. Citizenship Naturalization Ceremony at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 30, in the Old Central Ballroom of the Maucker Union on the UNI campus. This is the seventh ceremony hosted by UNI, and 100 people from over 30 countries of origin will participate in this year’s ceremony. This event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Marshals Service, UNI Maucker Union and the UNI Police. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

Cedar Falls, IA – The University of Northern Iowa’s Office of Community Engagement, in partnership with Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley, is hosting the Inaugural Community Engagement Celebration Day on Thursday, April 19. The public is invited to attend. From 9 to 10:30 a.m., attendees are welcome to browse nearly 70 community engagement projects. UNI faculty, staff, students, centers and institutes and community partners will be showcasing, class projects, student organization projects, community-based research and individual community engagement work.

Wise will talk about "The State of Education in Iowa: Challenges, Opportunities and Key State Initiatives."
