On Monday, October 14 from 2-3 p.m. in the Rod Library 378 or on Wednesday, October 16 from 2-3 p.m. via Zoom you can explore techniques for crafting effective prompts to maximize the outputs of Generative AI Tools. The session will include hands-on examples and focus on creating clear, specific, and adaptable prompts, empowering you to fully utilize Microsoft Copilot and Blackboard AI.
Renowned environmental writer and biologist Sandra Steingraber will present “Contaminated Without Consent: Cancer, Agricultural Chemicals & Human Rights,” from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16 in Sabin Hall 002. The talk will explore the involuntary cancer risks posed by exposures to agricultural chemicals in the Midwestern Corn Belt and examine the promises of agroecology as an alternative to industrial agriculture. Steingraber will also describe her lived experience as a young biologist diagnosed with cancer in rural Illinois and provide a human rights approach to the idea that “behind every data point in the cancer registry there is a human life.” Sponsored by the School of Health & Human Sciences, Center for Energy & Environmental Education, College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and College of Humanities, Arts & Sciences. Completed IAF applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 3 (this deadline is for research applications or any trips occurring between November 1 - November 30). The Intercollegiate Academics Fund (IAF) is a yearly allocation of Student Activity Fee monies that exists to promote and support intercollegiate academic experiences for University of Northern Iowa students. The Panther Pantry is partnering with Life Serve Blood Center on Thursday, October 31 to host a blood drive. For every blood donation received, the donor will get a fun pair of socks, and Life Serve will donate a non-perishable food item to the Panther Pantry. Please schedule an appointment in advance.
