The University of Northern Iowa saw the size of its incoming class of first-year students grow for the second straight year, as well as all-time high graduation rates for its most recent graduating class.
This fall’s new freshman enrollment increased by 5% over last year to 1,554 students, and increased by 6% over the fall 2019 freshman class. The class of 2025 includes an increase in both Iowa residents and out-of-state students.
Jerreme Jackson’s journey as a Black man becoming the first member of his family to earn a doctorate degree was fueled by determination and perseverance. Now at UNI, he’s passing on those lessons to students from underrepresented backgrounds.
UNI students said they are looking forward to returning to a more normal fall semester after enduring a year of restrictions and guidelines caused by COVID-19.
More than 3,000 students returned to campus housing this week, ready to start the fall semester. On Thursday, brand-new Panthers could be seen pushing in carts of belongings with their parents across campus. Some carried in a pet fish or even pool noodles to make bunk beds more comfortable.
